Northwest Landing Late 1880s to Late 1890s

By 1883, maps of North Indianapolis contain street names. Growth, both in the city center and the Indiana Avenue area is significant.

This 1887 map outlines two woodworking industries operating in the area. Both finished lumber production and the crafting of wooden cradles were active manufacturing endeavors in North Indianapolis, or Ward 4, as it was also called during this time period.

In 1896, City Ward and Precinct Maps do not identify North Indianapolis as separate from the city of Indianapolis. Center Township’s boundary had been extended north outside of the original Indianapolis Donation boundaries that established the city, making the neighborhood part of the growing city.
